Bergamot - Pink pepper - Chamomile

Take comfort and shelter in Sri Lanka's Hill Country with the HAPUTALE candle

Warm and comforting with gentle spice and woody aromas, let the HAPUTALE candle warm your soul and home with its soothing perfume to help you unwind and relax.

With notes of blue water lily, bergamot, pink pepper and ambers, this precious fragrance evokes the wonderous tea growing Hill Country region of Sri Lanka. This rich spicy fragrance with hints of chamomile and pink pepper will transport you to a pristine terrace, high up in the hills and sipping on a warm cuppa as you look out over beautifully tended tea fields.

Perfume notes:

Blue Lily: The national flower of Sri Lanka has a soft and delicate floral note.

Chamomile: A sweet and calming flower with a pleasant smoky mountain finish

Pink Pepper: The berries of the Schinus molle, an evergreen tree native to arid zones of South America, our pink peppers have a fresh woody rose scent.

Bergamot: The citrus fruit of the Citrus bergamia, Bergamot has a fruity-sweet fragrance with mild spicy hints.

Ambers: Warm, comforting and deeply sensuous, our Baltic Amber is woody and a little sweet.

Vetiver: Known as the Oil of Tranquillity in Sri Lanka, we derive this precious ingredient from the root of the Vetiver grass  which gives it an earthy, woody green fragrance.

The Perfumer says:

"The small town of Haputale, surrounded by tea plantations and cloud forest is nestled in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The cooler climate that comes with its elevation is perfect for growing tea and is a welcome relief as you travel up winding hillside roads from the tropical lower elevations.

"Tea trails await the adventurous explorer, with vast plantations and tea factories unchanged since the days of Ceylon all open to explore and share their secrets. After the tea, picturesque waterfalls and cloud forest hikes which reveal awe inspiring views abound in this magical place.

"A love letter to Sri Lankan tea and its Hill Country origins, with the aromatic, green and spicy Haputale perfume I’ve taken water lily, bergamot, chamomile, pink pepper, vetiver and amber to create an unforgettable fragrance in tribute to this beautiful part of the world."

Howard Crosskey, Founder and Perfumer

  • Our perfumes are meticulously developed over 100s of hours spent at our perfumers organ to ensure we achieve the exact fragrance we desire. Once the perfume is ready, in our London test kitchen, our candle recipes are perfected to ensure we’ve created the perfect scented candle.
  • Following 100s more hours of testing, each candle is produced with the upmost care at our Liverpool based Chandlers who have a proud pedigree going back 130 years. At Crosskey Avenue we are delighted to be combining modern vibrant perfumes with traditional candle making techniques to create our unique scented candles.
  • We use a soy-blend wax in our Haputale candles, this mixture of soy wax and mineral wax ensures we capture the best of both waxes. The soy gives us a nice clean slow burn and the mineral ensures an efficient fragrance throw allowing the perfume to disperse more widely as the candle burns.
  • Each Haputale by Crosskey Avenue candle is wrapped in minimalist matt white glass. We chose this glass because it gives off a warm sensuous relaxing glow as the candle burns and the matt white means it looks great in any situation.
  • The Haputale candle is presented in a beautiful gifting box embossed with the signature Crosskey Avenue keyholes. Made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard mix and completely plastic free, we designed our packaging to be fully kerbside recyclable, so we opted out of fancy hot foiling and other design elements which make it impossible for the cardboard to be recycled by most councils in the UK.

"Haputale is my favourite of the collection with its beautiful realisation of Sri Lanka’s tea growing mountains." - Read what perfumer blogger and industry insider Stephan Matthews has to say about the Haputale candle.
